Martian Cow Pattys

So, I volunteered to make birthday treats for all of my co-workers.  Because, I'm crazy.  I wish I had taken pictures of the first two cakes I made because they turned out great.  And, were delicious.  I made an Angel Food cake with pineapple bundt cake.  And, an Angel Food Strawberry cream jelly roll.  The strawberry cream was fat free pudding mix, CoolWhip and a carton of light strawberry yogurt.  So, instead I took pictures of my epic fail...

I saw a polka dot cake on Pinterest and immediately became obsessed.  So, I bought a cake ball pan and a couple cake mixes to give it a shot.

The bottoms browned and the tops didn't rise the whole way.  Ethan asked if the green ones were chocolate and mint.  Then asked how they could not be chocolate when they were so brown...

So, I went back to the store and got a different brand, thinking it was the problem was using an Aldi mix.  No, Pilsbury was just as bad.  Rich decided that was because I had the heat too high and baked the bottoms too soon so the tops didn't have time to rise.  He can be really smart sometimes.

So, then I decided to bake them in a cake just to see what happened...Martian cow pattys is what happened.
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm, Bethany?

Then when we cut into it, we found out that the balls floated to the top and you can definitely see the ring of brown.  Epic Fail...but it was pretty tasty.

I used white cake with almond extract.  Then I made plenty of jokes about how delicious my balls were.  I suggested they top them with frosting because it made my balls tastier.  I know, I'm a real grown up but I had them rolling in the isles!

I ended up making almond cupcakes with raspberry filling and almond frosting and sprinkled them with pearl candies.  They were really good and pretty but then did I take pictures?  No.  In all, I made 4 mixes.  And my balls turned stale.  It happens.
This is what it was supposed to look like.  Isn't it cute?
